For a little over half a decade now, Kenyan Afro-indie artiste Njerae has been attracting the right kind of attention towards her brand & craft.
From her earliest gems like 2018’s “Pressure” to outstanding more recent numbers like “Tuthi”, her joint effort with Afro pop singer-songwriter Charisma.
Njerae’s got a cool combo of compelling talent & shrewd range that she’s employed to rewarding effort. That much is clear when one observes the sonic inclinations of her more popular singles; whether solo efforts or collabs. She alternates between leaning deeper into her signature guitar pop/R&B-adjacent sound on her lone tracks to a more mainstream beat & synth-driven sound on joint efforts, all the while maintaining a singular traceable thread of artistic identity. Her latest single can be placed somewhere in-between that divide.
In the last two months, her intricately crafted vision & hard work have gotten a major boost, as she’s been spotted & signed by Universal Music Group East Africa (UMG EA). It’ll be interesting to observe her trajectory going forward, given her current resource pool & more formidable technical support. Fine odds to her & her team, we’ll be paying attention.
