Girl’s a vibe & we’re all better for it. Crazy to think she was uncertain about the whole singing thing ’til age 16. To her recollection, she knew she wanted to do music from way earlier, but the specificity of her calling wasn’t so clear until later on.
Getting into writing at just 10, she heard the musical inclination within calling out to her even back then. But the clarity to deploy her remarkable vocals only surfaced when she was nudged by her mates years after & when she gained the realization that nobody could materialize the sound in her head better than herself.
Fast forward to her debut single “Wanted” in 2020, & that oomphy followup “Mpumuza” ft Cxnrvd and Chxf Barry. The joint’s boldness & melodic quirkiness made a statement, both to herself & the scene at large.
In the four years that’ve followed, she’s ridden on her influences (the likes of Mariam Makeba, Jamal, Eryka Badu & Ace of Base) to craft the melange of Afro-soul, R&B, dancehall & folk that’s been definitive of her catalogue. The latest entry in her arsenal is a remix & reinterpretation of Henry Tigan’s “Out of Control”, with the latter on the support roster this time along with Andy Muzik. It’s quite the testament to eclectic vision.
We’re crossing our fingers that she’s cheffing something new as we speak. A man can only wish.
