A confession here: Goes without saying that we’re doing this spotlight ’cause Matt’s an ambitious, innovative artist & an infectiously sweet human who was always bound to get more than project specific mentions from us, yeah, yeah… But like, to be honest, we kinda have an agenda we’re pushing with this piece too. See, there’s things & people beyond him with whom this gives us occasion to conceptually interact with. And we’ll take it!
Né Matthew David Nyanzi, he’s had a close support system right from the early days. A similarly musical sibling, and a cousin & uncle who were influential to his formative and current tastes. Fast-forward to high school & bro formed a collective dubbed “003” with other aspirational yearmates. Circa 2016, he penned some numbers that he couldn’t find a professional recording space for, not until 2017. And that’s the background of the first entry in his catalog Corona, availed for streaming in 2020; poetic, given the title & the times.
Now here comes some lowkey agenda. See, dude who produced “Corona” is Roland Nareeba, yk The Silent Treatment enigma & all. In his own right, bro’s super-talented, both at conceiving & executing musical concepts. We’ve talked about this before. It’s just crazy how much potential he has. It’s not like he isn’t doing something about it. He’s slated to tour a few spots in Minneapolis, US, this February. Cool stuff! Yet his presence on socials is elusive. Totally within your rights, Roland. But like, maybe, throw us a bone!
Anyways, back to main man Matt, as of the current moment, he appears to have nailed a hack in strategic synergies with other nü school artists on the scene. It’s aided his stream-count; nothing like a little audience infiltration! But more than that, word has it that he’s set his sights on a number of exciting projects this year, and we’re here for it. Generous portions, yes please!
