One of those pre-2019 rappers that oughtta get way more post-2020 love than is apparent, Tucker HD is a jewel and a force in one. From his early mixtapes, to a Talent Africa Urban Star Search-engineered stint with dynamic rap group Airport Taxi which ended in 2015, he was quite a prospect from the go. His late 2010’s milestones include a pivotal UG Hip Hop Award win back in 2016, & “Vroom!!” his noteworthy 2018 EP that packed a solid support roster boasting of the potent acts of the day within the subgenre like Keko & Big Trill and future regional giants like the Rwandan maestro Angell Mutoni.

Since the dawn of the current decade, he’s not let up in terms of intensity of output. His trajectory is further complemented by how much of a full package he is. There’s just so much intricate intentionality going on with him that we’re persuaded his peak is defo ahead of him and not behind. He’s due another round of career breakthroughs many times more pronounced than any of his previous stopovers on victory lane.

His latest single “Just Left Ntinda” is a bouncy joint with references to his personal arc, including a shoutout to a setting the writer of this piece is closely acquainted with (re:“Mugwanya Wing B” – 1906 vibes, if you know, you know!) He also alludes to his aspirations, dynamics of the game he’s plying his trade in, his relationship to acclaim & the like. It’s pretty emblematic of the powerhouse he is. And it was a cool choice to starve it of frequent refrains to grant him room to lyrically explore the motif he set out to wrestle with.

This the typa sauce we root for unreservedly. Tucker HD, fetch your blooming flowers, “in spades!” (wink-wink*)
