For a coherent narrative, we’ll go for a clustered format of evaluation on this specific project. First things first, it took the team back here several listens to confirm that this isn’t some over-smoothened collection of “safe” output as we’d initially concluded. For one, bro demonstrates a stretching palette, since last year’s debut. There’s an impressively unpatchy array of contrasts; from the opener’s Amapiano template (courtesy of Azooora’s bouncy production) juxtaposed with a rap-styled delivery, to the equally impressive mood hopping that follows.

In terms of conceptual continuity, Senté locks in from the go & never departs from his pocket, almost to the point of thematic blandness. Obviously his fan base won’t be complaining. He’s weaned them onto his whole delight of the senses girl-boy-fleeting-moment lyrical scheme since “You Wasted Kampala Love”. Though at least back then, you had him for a moment swinging from hedonistic tales to ambitious affirmations of his career trajectory. This time round, you’re in for the sensual feels solely. It does gel aptly with the sonic approach, so there’s that to commend. The most delightful instance of that compatibility is on “Temptations” ft Jamaican-Ugandan artiste Tai Dai, which, soundwise, is our fav tune on the project.

Elsewhere, our fav inclusion on the support roster is Nigerian genre-fusing artist Cznbaby on “Secret”. A rather inspired addition! You get the sense he’s being maturely moderate in his approach, he doesn’t do too much but stamps his presence on the joint. We certainly won’t be the only ones baited into a rabbit hole of his own catalog after spotting him on here.

This EP’s closer “Body” was another number we heard to get into several times before forming a verdict about it. On one hand, it wields a more straightforward Afrobeats style than earlier entries. And yet, it’s not what one would bet on to neatly tie up or stand as emblematic of the entire project. On the plus side, if anything, it seals the joint on a high, thanks to fresher energy from Letah & Ric.keys

Overall, “Teasin’” is indeed a tease in many senses of the word. Senté flaunts possibilities of a more elastic ethos to his craft, yet self-awaredly holds back, perhaps due to commercial appeal considerations. He’s entitled to that. I guess for now, we’ll  applaud the cohesion of what’s served, and hold out for more of what main man’s cheffing!
