One of Joe’s defining traits is that he does a hundred things concurrently, but each as intensely as though it were his only pursuit at a given time. That in itself affects how he frames his identity, a decision he made prior to the publicizing of this outfit. As co-founder and creative lead of #TheCullturing, to the team back here & those closest to him, he’s simply Joe. And yet at the same time, in almost the same context, he’s Kezerod whenever his Afro indie musical output is the subject at hand. This, at least in his mind (😂), clears a potential conflict of interest that arises from being both an ambitious maker of art and an impartial commentator of the same. Furthermore, even more comically, he’s Joe M Watema in his fantasy literary endeavours. Yup, you read that right. Turns out, come Friday 19th of December this year, bro’s announcing the release date of his debut SciFi/fantasy novel titled “The Hindspellers”. You can now begin to grasp the scope of his vocational range, and that’s with some significant omissions from his current slate. Yet he considers all these not to be disparate arcs, but all part of one big culture project, which brings us back to The Culturing itself and the heralding of its beginnings.

Of course, that “friend” in reference was our other half of the co-founder duo, Tandeka Mutebi, but that was already explored in the previous feature. Only other thing to say about it all was the almost unreal compatibility between the pair’s aspirations. See, it’s not that they fused two halves of an idea to birth this publication. But rather, each, Joe & Tandy, conceived the exact concept (save for contextual framing) before they even ever met! It was during a stint of interacting about art forms and the social scene that it became undeniably apparent that they’d have to frame up some kinda synergy, and the rest is the history that became this joint.

But back to the other aspects of the post, Joe (under the alter ego Kezerod) articulated the major aspects of what we’d conceive ourselves to be from the go. Pop culture as lived: music + literary reviews, fashion features, subcultures & creative crossovers. On the point of crossovers, we do have an announcement coming up that’ll change y’all’s outlook on our scope. It’s baked into the last pieces of this sequence, and it’s bound to expose new interesting facets of our team, so eyes peeled, y’all!
