At long last, we’re unveiling to y’all the first category of our cultural impact index. The last two categories (sector-based distribution of achievement & the impact of 1906’er-steered entities) will follow soon. This first part consists of rankings of individual alumni in terms of the impact they’ve had on the cultural realm of wherever they may find themselves. In other words, it’s not localized to the 256, but includes folks making an impact in their spheres in other regions too. For now, we’re unveiling the index itself, but we’ll soon follow it up with a deep dive of each of the 70 ranked individuals, rationales, backgrounds and much more. A few clarifications first:
This first index isn’t generalist in its scope, but solely pertains to culture (societal adaptations, norms, way of life, intellectual corpus). That’s to say, it’s possible for an individual to wield much influence in general while not translating into being as consequential on the cultural scene. For that reason, you’ll find many notable omissions, curious orderings, & perhaps unforeseen inclusions. Furthermore, with the exception of one entry, the rankings do not pertain to a duration of lifetimes or legacies, but rather the period between the beginning of last year 2024 to the present day. Additionally, this is by no means a ranking of net worth or career trajectory. Neither is it about recognition. For it’s evidently possible to impact large swaths of people in significant ways without amassing immediate recognition, and vice versa. This index 1 concerns itself solely with 70 merit-derived individual weevils’ cultural impact in the assessment duration 2024/25. Below is the index contained in the displayed pdf.
