Since 2013, Kenyan rapper & content creator Chevy Kev has been on an artistically restless spree. A sonic testament to how far his experimental chops have seen him come is his newest joint album with fellow sound nomad N’Jiru; “HIZI STRTZ”.

Influenced by the likes of Jay Z, AKA & Camp Mulla, he’s been quite intentional over the years to seek out collabs that gel with his genre-stretching approach, linking up with acts like RVMP & XPRSO.

Chevy has recently attributed his artistic experimentation to both the music he’s consumed over the years, and his unique childhood. Having grown up as an only child, he balanced out his lonesomeness with music. As his tastes became clearer to him in his teenage years, he joined a friend for the rap-duo Duke & Haze, back in 2013. When it dissolved shortly after, his solo career kicked off. He went on to work with Mr Lu* for a while, eventually releasing a joint project in 2018 titled “KiiNYUME”, which spawned such innovative standout tracks like “Peer Pressure”.

He’s since not slowed down to-date. Neither has his knack for pushing sonic boundaries.

Crossing our fingers that he’s cheffing up some more material in the same vein!
