Né Denis Tumusiime, he’s been on the scene for about half a decade. We’ve come to know him as many things. Rapper—bet that’s the most obvious facet of him most are acquainted with. Close to it is his cultural affiliation: He’s a mukiga, & has in the past acknowledged this aspect of him to be consequential to his craft. And yet he isn’t unidimensional in his cultural expressions, but rather opting to make syncretistic use of artistic elements from diverse heritages.
Even beyond culture, he’s been eclectic about his sonic identity too, placing himself in contexts of numerous subgenres. This is most evident in the diversity of features he’s pursued & the vastly varying support rosters he’s enlisted on his projects. Right from back in 2019, recruiting the likes of Crxnvd & Ledra, to his latest multi-track project boasting a set of about a dozen guest features.
Even when taken for more than just his catalogue, there’s quite a number of layers to him, some even making for interesting contrasts. One case in point, there’s a subtle brittleness to his demeanor, which is balanced out by the gusto in his musical delivery.
Another contrast is how he can now & then rave about himself lyrically, while giving hints of an earnest groundedness when off the mic. You get the sense he’s living for a higher purpose, & that he’s not the highest authority in his own life. That depth of personality, coupled with a fun ethos to his craft, makes you root for him. You want his delivery to be good, and he makes you come to his art with a mind already half made-up to dig it! And for the most part, he earns the last half. Given how prolific he’s proved himself to be, we sure as heck know he’s cooking up a cool joint as we speak. Bring them on, bud!
