This is the most nuanced discovery feature we’ve ever penned, and it’ll be quite evident not far into the piece. For one, Raso’s an undeniable talent. Like, there’s something super-special here! At the same time, there’s also a number of what could be perceived as glaring stylistic shortfalls about him as an act. Needless to say, these kinds of assertions carry some subjectivity. But back to the point, good thing is, dude’s strengths mog his vulnerabilities.
Bro’s highest attribute, both literally and figuratively, is that gem of a voice. Them pipes, sheesh! More specifically, his enchanting falsetto. And he’s a showoff about it😂… but we’ll get back to that in a bit. In terms of other high points, there’s something to say about his sonic acumen. He can sure lay down a nifty arrangement, whip up an atmosphere, and entrance you in a mood of his making. Commendable for where he is on his artistic trajectory. Peep his most exposed piece “All I Want” for a testament to all that:
On the other hand, he’s got a curiously aggressive approach to audience acquisition. It could at times come off as tacky. What with the sea of hashtags on his X wall and all😅 He could also use an aesthetic upgrade for the visual elements of his self-presentation to match up to his sonic aura. A member of the team back here had a thing or two to say about the lyrical aspect of bro’s songwriting too, but that’s saved for a later feature. It’s easy to see that this is anything but a puff piece, but we’ll be quick to point out that some of these apparent vulnerabilities have odd upsides to them. Take his audience infiltration for instance, bro’s organic growth is a whole other thing! Like the devoted fan base he’s built with virtually no budget, his consistency on socials, and his iterative teases that culminate in fan-adored output. Thick sauce! That same consistency got him noticed to be enlisted onto a World Music Day joint at Sheraton Gardens, Kampala. Told ya we’d get back to the point about being a showoff, well here he is doing some awesome vocal peacockery at the event last month:
And all to think that this noteworthy artistry has its genesis in that 2019 covid lockdown stint! Well, he was into the craft before that, right from childhood, a spell in church and elementary school. But it was around the lockdowns that he really locked in (cringey pan, we get it). Bro’s catalog so far is quite promising, and our eyes are peeled for where he goes after his newest best-received jam. Keep’em coming, Raso!
