Grace. What a word, what a thing! Or things. ’Cause that one term can carry within it several concepts. It could, say, mean elegance with ease. Alternatively, it could represent an undeserved favour. Our spotlighted artist embodies both connotations of grace. For one, Patricia, as the team back here like to call her, is a portrait of effortless poise. And this is more so in the delivery of her craft, which makes it feel like an unmerited favour she chooses to enspell onto us, her less elegant recipients🤣
Lest y’all misunderstand, said gracefulness should by no means be conflated with prudishness. After all, her art testifies she’s anything but a prude. The extra layer to it though is that there’s a sophistication to her sensuality, both conceptual and performative. More to that soon, but speaking of performing, homegirl set out on her artistic arc initially as a gig-driven cover performer at suburban music joints. Some on our team caught onto that, and a few things stood out even back then. Perhaps most prominent of them is how she’d introduce herself by her glorious surname. Said with no ounce of prejudice whatsoever, one needs to be rather stubborn to decide on going by M-I-T-I-R-I-K-P-W-E as their performer name, whichever way you look at it. But it’s that same audacity that’s made her quite compelling so far!
The same attitude’s carried over into her present recording era. From her 2024 material including singles like “Dyewor” to her 2025 self-titled EP, she’s been insistent on distinctives like crooning in her local Madi dialect, meanwhile containing it all within a neo-soul setting that she lends an alluring exoticness to.
Inferred from both her approach and its results, it would seem that Patricia’s not on the super-sleek commercialism train. Case in point, she doesn’t have some eye-arresting stream count and doesn’t seem crazy about that direction. She does, however, place some weight on aesthetics as seen in live video-captured renditions of her pieces. But the point is, she seems to have plotted out a rather independent path she’s sticking to. We can’t read much into it. What we can certainly say though is, she does make up for those quirks by leaning into her warmth among her peers. It’s a combination of this severally attested relational acumen alongside her talent that has seen her reach a number of commendable milestones. These include landing regional performance slots & being enlisted the European Union’s #YoVoiceBeHard program. One gets the sense it’s only the start of a spiking trajectory, eyes peeled!
