Mike Mungu’s a delicate, intricately intentional soul. It shines throughout his output. That was a baseline going into this joint. And our expectations on that front were gladly confirmed. But the very connotation of a baseline is that it’s the bare minimum. Unfair, are we? Not really. It’s a style-plus-content type thing. We dig the approach, now let’s turn over to the content:
Signature thick yearning pipes – check! Sufficiently sublime production value – doubtless! Boy-girl sensuality-laced lyrical template – fittingly so! All knit against a forced percussive carpet that lends a good measure of character to the tune. And… well, and that’s it! Literally. Wethinks bro’s been seduced by safety for a while. We almost get it, you grind for a while, plot an artistic trajectory, gather steam thereafter. Surely, you should be allowed sometime to plateau your way through for a while after attaining a certain threshold of audience attention, no? We suppose. For those same reasons, we too think we should be allowed to notice. As a matter of fact, this is our way of nudging for a quest beyond safety.
In fact, we’d have likely had a raver, more favorable take if he’d been more adventurous with his craft and blundered while at it. That should say something about the ethos of our outfit, but enough about our team. All love to Mike, and this will lead into an upcoming feature scheduled for this week. Eyed peeled!
